Like the game of golf, life after colon removal surgery can be mentally tough. Too often, Dusty and I hear and read about people who struggle with body image, self care and navigating intimate relationships. Learning to adjust to a different way of living or learning to live your "new normal" is not easy but it's worth it. We all grow and learn at our own pace, and adjusting to life with a jpouch or ostomy is no different. Yes, you will face challenges and bumps in the road, but with prayer and a strong network of support, life gets better and you will get back to the person you once were, if not a better version of yourself. If you or someone you know struggles with mental health associated with a recent colon removal surgery, remember YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Here is a resource from the United Ostomy Association of America that can help you get started.
